WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden will welcome the Texas Rangers to the White House on Thursday to honor the team for winning their first World Series title in franchise history.
The Rangers clinched the championship by defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 5 of the World Series last November.
It is a long-standing tradition for professional and collegiate championship teams to visit the White House and receive recognition from the president. This visit will mark a rare public appearance by Biden, who has been largely absent from the public eye since his July 21 announcement that he was withdrawing from the 2024 presidential race and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.
The Rangers were scheduled to fly to Washington on Wednesday following a game against the Houston Astros. After their Thursday appearance with Biden, the team will travel to New York to start a three-game series against the Yankees on Friday.
It will be the fourth visit to the White House for Rangers manager Bruce Bochy. He visited three times after winning titles with the San Francisco Giants in 2011, 2013 and 2015 — all during Barack Obama’s term in office.
The Rangers announced the visit on Monday and the White House confirmed it early Tuesday
