Before Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever and Angel Reese’s Chicago Sky were set to compete on Friday night, Clark was asked about the WNBA Rookie of the Year race. Both Clark and Reese are top contenders, leading a talented rookie class.
When questioned about the pursuit of the league’s top rookie honor, Clark emphasized that their focus is on winning games, not individual accolades. “I think Angel and I would both tell you the same thing,” Clark said. “We’re not waking up thinking about personal awards, even though that’s what everyone assumes. That’s not where our minds are. The real focus is on helping our teams make the playoffs. Caring only about personal awards would be selfish, and I’m sure Angel feels the same way. If you’re playing basketball just for individual awards, you’re doing it wrong.”
CC, on if it’s fun for the ROY race to be competitive with Angel Reese: “Me and Angel would both give you the same answer. You don’t wake up and think about individual awards. I know that’s what all of you think we do… that’s what everybody wants to make this about.”
