DONE DEAL JUST IN: Bruins sign another key man who is greater than Jeremy Swayman, to professional agreement deal done just now

Johnson, a two-time Stanley Cup winner, will have an opportunity to earn his spot on the roster.

The Bruins made a low-risk move on Saturday, aiming to bolster their depth by signing veteran forward Tyler Johnson to a professional tryout agreement.

Johnson, 34, brings extensive experience with 738 career games over 12 NHL seasons, accumulating 193 goals and 238 assists. He’s also a two-time Stanley Cup champion, having won in 2020 and 2021 with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Standing 5-foot-8 and weighing 185 pounds, Johnson most recently played 67 games for the Chicago Blackhawks last season.

As his career winds down, Johnson is eager to extend his time in the league and demonstrate that he still has more to offer. The Bruins will evaluate him during training camp to determine if he’s a good fit and whether he’s earned a place on the roster.
