Mark Giordano had a strong run with the Toronto Maple Leafs, but as he aims to extend his NHL career, he might find himself joining a divisional rival.
The Maple Leafs were excited when they brought Giordano on board a few years back, and after taking a hometown discount to stay, he quickly became a fan favorite. However, the 2023-24 season was tough for Giordano due to injuries, limiting him to just 46 games, during which he recorded three goals and nine points.
Now approaching 41 when the 2024-25 season starts, many expected Giordano to retire, but he’s remained firm in his decision to keep playing. His agent has confirmed interest from four teams, including the Maple Leafs, who could use his experience in a 7th defenseman role.
One of the other teams is a division rival, the Buffalo Sabres, who are interested in adding the veteran to their young defensive core, where the average age of their top four defensemen is just 22.

It’s still uncertain which way Giordano is leaning, but at 41, time is running out for him to achieve his goal of winning a Stanley Cup. With the Edmonton Oilers also expressing interest, it’s clear he faces a significant decision.
