LOS ANGELES — The first pitch at Dodger Stadium occurred in 103-degree heat, marking the hottest game start of the season for the Dodgers.
A few innings later, Shohei Ohtani took his turn to shine. In the fifth inning against the Guardians, Ohtani launched his 46th home run of the season, inching closer to Major League history.
Ohtani’s homer was a remarkable shot, traveling an estimated 450 feet with an exit velocity of 116.7 mph. The two-time unanimous American League Most Valuable Player hit the ball just inside the fair line, with the call confirmed after a lengthy review by the crew chief.
With only 19 games remaining in the regular season, Ohtani needs to hit four more home runs and steal four more bases to become the first player in Major League history to achieve the 50-50 milestone. He is already the only player to reach 46 home runs and 46 stolen bases in a single season.
