The Washington Commanders signed kicker Austin Seibert on Tuesday, following the release of kicker Cade York a day earlier.
York was cut after missing two field goals and sending a kickoff out of bounds in Washington’s 37-20 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. His release came just three weeks after the Commanders acquired him from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick. “It really shows that we have very high standards,” said Commanders head coach Dan Quinn during his Monday press conference. Seibert, 27, has played 31 career games with the Browns (2019-20), Cincinnati Bengals (2020), Detroit Lions (2021-22), and New York Jets (2023), making 45 of 56 field-goal attempts.
Washington also signed rookie offensive tackle Anim Dankwah to the practice squad on Tuesday. The Commanders are set to face the New York Giants (0-1) on Sunday.
