The Denver Broncos’ offense appeared sluggish in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks, with rookie QB Bo Nix managing just 3.3 yards per pass attempt and throwing two interceptions on 42 throws.
Looking to make adjustments, the team has promoted fullback Michael Burton, formerly of the Kansas City Chiefs, to their active roster ahead of their Week 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Burton, who played for the Chiefs in 2021 and 2022 before the team did away with the fullback position, found a new home in Denver in 2023 but was placed on the practice squad to start the season. Now, he’s back on the Broncos’ main roster as they prepare for the upcoming game.
Former #Chiefs player news:
-Broncos signed FB Mike Burton to their 53-man roster.
-Browns placed S Juan Thornhill on IR with a calf injury.
-CB Kelvin Joseph joined the Colts practice squad.
-CB Dicaprio Bootle joined the Chargers practice squad.

During his time with the Chiefs, former Rutgers standout Michael Burton logged 13 carries for 33 yards and a touchdown, along with five receptions for 42 yards. Primarily used as a blocker, he contributed to a strong rushing attack when needed.
In his first season with Denver, Burton didn’t see much action with the ball either, recording just seven carries for nine yards. However, given the Broncos’ quick-passing, dink-and-dunk offensive approach, he may find more playing time in tight formations to help protect Bo Nix.
Burton isn’t expected to be a game-changer for the offense, nor is he meant to be. The bigger question lies with head coach Sean Payton figuring out if Nix has what it takes to be a starting NFL quarterback. Based on Week 1, the answer doesn’t look promising.
While there’s still plenty of time for the Broncos to improve, it’s clear that the AFC West remains firmly in Kansas City’s control, with no serious challengers in sight.
