Recently, an incident between the Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays resulted in Nick Castellanos being intentionally hit by a pitch, leading to consequences for Rays pitcher Edwin Uceta. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Uceta has been suspended for three games and fined for his actions. Additionally, Rays manager Kevin Cash received a one-game suspension for his involvement.
Castellanos expressed frustration over the situation, telling ESPN, “I had a strong feeling I was about to get drilled. We all knew what it was — he was just mad that he got hit around, and his ERA shot up.”
Bryce Harper, a teammate of Castellanos, also voiced his displeasure, stating, “That’s not the game we play. Pitchers throw too hard today to be retaliating like this. It really fired me up and upset me. It’s not something we should accept in Major League Baseball.”
MLB took action by suspending Uceta and Cash, making it clear that such behavior is unacceptable.
