Nick Saban is impressed by Ryan Williams’ performance during his freshman year with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Williams currently leads the team in all receiving stats, with six receptions for 207 yards and three touchdowns over the first two games.
Saban recruited Williams early, securing his commitment when he was still a 10th grader. The former Alabama head coach sees similarities between Williams and Biletnikoff Award winner Amari Cooper, recalling Cooper’s freshman season.
“Ryan Williams is a mature competitor,” Saban said on ESPN College Gameday. “He’s one of the most mature kids I’ve ever recruited. As a freshman, he’s already showing a lot of maturity. When a guy can focus on what really matters at 17, it says a lot. This guy is explosive, has great hands, and can run after the catch. He reminds me of Amari Cooper as a freshman.”
Williams and Alabama are set to face Wisconsin on the road this Saturday.
