Jeremy Swayman is considered one of the top goaltenders in the world right now, but he’s caught in a tough contract situation with the Boston Bruins.
Swayman is seeking a deal worth $10 million annually over eight years. However, the Bruins only have $8.6 million in cap space and are hesitant to allocate all of it to a goaltender. As a result, it’s been reported that the Bruins have offered him a lowball deal of $6.2 million per year for just four years.
Amidst this contract standoff, NHL Trade Rumour proposed a hypothetical trade, suggesting that the Colorado Avalanche could send Sam Girard and Alexander Georgiev to the Bruins in exchange for Swayman.

For the Bruins, Georgiev, who has led the league in wins over the past two seasons, would bring a reliable veteran presence in net while prospect Brandon Bussi continues his development. On top of that, Girard is a talented puck-moving defenseman, something Bruins GM Don Sweeney has openly stated he’s seeking. With three years left on his contract at a reasonable AAV, Girard would be a valuable asset for Boston’s blue line.
For the Avalanche, acquiring Swayman would address their goaltending needs and provide a long-term solution in net. While parting with Girard would be tough, Colorado has a deep defensive group, making the trade feasible to land an elite goalie.
However, this scenario is more fantasy than reality. The Bruins are focused on reaching an agreement with Swayman, who remains a restricted free agent. Additionally, many teams aren’t willing to pay a goalie the kind of money Swayman is reportedly seeking. As for the Avalanche, they are likely satisfied with their current roster.
