The Miami Dolphins have not yet determined whether quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who suffered a concussion during Thursday night’s 31-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills, will be placed on injured reserve. However, the team bolstered its quarterback depth by signing Snoop Huntley from the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad on Monday. Huntley, who has been with the Ravens since 2020, has started nine games over the past three seasons while filling in for Lamar Jackson.
Tagovailoa’s injury leaves the Dolphins with backup Skylar Thompson and practice squad QB Tim Boyle. Head coach Mike McDaniel emphasized that the move to sign Huntley wasn’t a direct reflection on Thompson’s abilities, but rather a move to enhance depth. “It helps the dynamics of the room to have another guy with starting experience,” McDaniel said, adding that competition among quarterbacks will play out on the field.
Tagovailoa’s return remains uncertain, as there is no current timetable for his recovery, and he must clear the NFL’s concussion protocol before playing again. Due to his history with concussions, concerns about his long-term health persist. McDaniel mentioned that while Tagovailoa was at the team’s facility on Monday and appeared to be in good spirits, his medical status would be determined by the experts. The Dolphins’ next game is against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
If placed on injured reserve, Tagovailoa would be required to miss at least four games.
