The Dallas Cowboys placed a defensive lineman on injured reserve, and to fill the gap, they signed a player from the Washington Commanders’ practice squad to their 53-man roster.
The Dallas Cowboys placed Jordan Phillips on IR
According to a statement from the Cowboys, defensive tackle Jordan Phillips has been placed on injured reserve due to a wrist injury. Phillips was acquired from the Giants in August and had recorded one tackle in the Cowboys’ Week 1 victory over the Cleveland Browns. He won’t be eligible to return to play until at least October 27, when the Cowboys face the San Francisco 49ers.
The Cowboys poached Carlos Watkins off the Commanders
According to the statement, the team has signed Carlos Watkins from the Commanders’ practice squad. Watkins should be familiar to Cowboys fans, as he played for Dallas in 2021 and 2022. He had a standout year with the Cowboys in 2021, tallying 32 tackles and a pick-six. His return to Dallas makes sense given his previous success and his connection with defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
At 30, Watkins has spent eight seasons in the NFL, starting 37 games and appearing in 72. His career stats include six sacks, 139 tackles, and one forced fumble. He was drafted by the Houston Texans in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
