On the first day of on-ice training camp, the Boston Bruins announced they had signed goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo to a Professional Tryout Agreement. Last season, Kaskisuo joined the Laval Rocket, where he posted a 7-4 record, a .909 save percentage, and a 2.90 goals-against average over 13 games. The 30-year-old netminder has appeared in two NHL games and 108 AHL games, compiling a 53-36-13 record, a 2.68 goals-against average, and a .909 save percentage with the Toronto Marlies, Chicago Wolves, and Laval Rocket.
Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 208 pounds, Kaskisuo played for Leksand IF in Sweden’s top league from 2021 to 2023. Before that, he signed with the Nashville Predators after two years at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he recorded a 1.92 goals-against average in his second season. He was also named an AHL All-Star in the 2019-20 season.
With All-Star goaltender Jeremy Swayman yet to be re-signed, Kaskisuo offers professional experience and could serve as a backup to Joonas Korpisalo in the NHL or play in the AHL if Brandon Bussi or Michael DiPietro are called upon to replace Swayman. Bruins GM Don Sweeney told the media on Wednesday that the team is aiming to sign Swayman by the December 1 deadline.
