On the first day of their on-ice training camp, the Boston Bruins announced that goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo has joined the team on a Professional Tryout Agreement. Kaskisuo, who signed with the Laval Rocket late last season, recorded a 7-4 record, a .909 save percentage, and a 2.90 goals-against average in 13 games. The 30-year-old goalie has appeared in two NHL games and 108 AHL games over his career. Hailing from Vantaa, Finland, Kaskisuo has compiled a 53-36-13 record with a 2.68 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage in the AHL, playing for teams such as the Toronto Marlies, Chicago Wolves, and Laval Rocket.
Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 208 pounds, Kaskisuo spent the 2021-23 seasons with Leksand IF in the Swedish Hockey League. He originally signed with the Nashville Predators after two years at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where he posted a 1.92 goals-against average in his second season. Kaskisuo was also named to the AHL All-Star team during the 2019-20 season.
With Bruins All-Star goalie Jeremy Swayman yet to be signed, Kaskisuo provides valuable experience and could serve as a backup to Joonas Korpisalo in the NHL or play in the AHL, depending on whether Brandon Bussi or Michael DiPietro steps in for Swayman. Bruins GM Don Sweeney mentioned in a press conference that the team aims to finalize a deal with Swayman by the December 1 deadline.
