On Friday, the Arizona Diamondbacks designated veteran infielder Luis Guillorme for assignment to make room on the roster for Lourdes Gurriel Jr.’s return from the 10-day injured list.
Guillorme, originally a 10th-round pick by the New York Mets in 2013, joined the Diamondbacks in late August—his third team this season. The 29-year-old started the year with the Braves, then moved to the Angels, where he appeared in 50 games before arriving in Arizona.
While not a regular starter, Guillorme provided infield depth, especially during Ketel Marte’s absence. However, since Marte’s return a few weeks ago, Guillorme’s playing time has been limited, with just three appearances. He played 18 games for the Diamondbacks, batting .162 (6-for-37), mainly as a second baseman.
His brief time with Arizona will likely be remembered for a spectacular diving play against the Red Sox, robbing a base hit in his third game with the team.

With Lourdes Gurriel Jr. returning to the lineup for the first time since September 1st, the Diamondbacks are looking to strengthen their offense. The outfielder had been sidelined due to a strained left calf but was in great form before the injury. In the 20 days prior to landing on the IL, Gurriel recorded hits in 15 games, improving his season batting average from .265 to .274.
The Diamondbacks, fresh off a series-opening win on Thursday, aim to build on their momentum with ace Zac Gallen taking the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 5:10 p.m. Arizona currently holds a slim 1.5-game lead over the Braves for the final Wild Card spot in the National League.
