Loke Johansson won’t have a breakout season like Matt Poitras did last year.
The Bruins have decided to send Johansson, their sixth-round pick from June, back to the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. At just 18, the Swedish defenseman was one of the youngest players in camp and had slim chances of making a roster already loaded with defensive talent.
Due to his age, Johansson was not eligible for the AHL.
Standing at 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds, the Stockholm native will play his first North American season this year. He was selected 186th overall after being ranked 52nd among European skaters by NHL Central Scouting.
Elite Prospects describes Johansson as a stay-at-home defenseman.
The Bruins face the Washington Capitals in their second preseason game on Tuesday at TD Garden.
