The Chicago Bears made several roster changes on Tuesday, promoting tight end Stephen Carlson from the practice squad to the active 53-man roster. This move follows running back Travis Homer being placed on injured reserve after undergoing surgery for a finger injury sustained in practice last week. To fill Carlson’s spot on the practice squad, the Bears signed tight end Teagan Quitoriano.
Carlson, 27, played one game for the Bears last season and previously appeared in 25 games for the Cleveland Browns from 2019-2020, recording six catches for 62 yards and a touchdown. Homer secured a spot on the Bears’ roster this season after rookie running back Ian Wheeler tore his ACL during a preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Homer has played in two games this season, rushing three times for 16 yards.
The 26-year-old Homer was another option in the backfield alongside Roschon Johnson, Khalil Herbert, and D’Andre Swift. The earliest he can return is Week 8, following the Bears’ bye in Week 7. Quitoriano, a former fifth-round pick by the Houston Texans in 2022, played in 16 games over the past two seasons, catching nine passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns. He had been sidelined with a calf injury during training camp but now adds depth at tight end for the Bears.
