Washington Commanders running back Austin Ekeler carried the ball three times for 35 yards, scoring a touchdown in a 38-33 road victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night. He averaged 11.7 yards per carry. Additionally, Ekeler caught two passes, gaining 22 yards without scoring, and averaged 11.0 yards per reception.
Washington Commanders Head Coach Dan Quinn Provides Update On Running Back Austin Ekeler Entering Week 4
In Week 3 against the Bengals, Austin Ekeler exited the game during the third quarter and was taken to the locker room, not returning to the field. The Commanders later announced that he was being evaluated for a concussion and ruled out for the remainder of the game.
On Tuesday, head coach Dan Quinn provided an update, stating:
“Yeah, Austin had a concussion and also a laceration on his ear. So, he went back to Virginia today to begin the concussion protocol. I’ll have more info toward the end of the week. Instead of coming out here to Arizona, he went back home to Virginia to start that process.”
This raises concerns for Ekeler’s availability in Week 4 against the Cardinals. After their Monday night game, the team traveled to Arizona, but Ekeler returned to Virginia for treatment. His status for Week 4 remains uncertain, and he could potentially miss more time.
Washington, currently 2-1, faces a crucial matchup against Arizona, who sits at 1-2, making this game an important one for both teams.
Potential Running Backs
With Austin Ekeler potentially sidelined for this weekend’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, Brian Robinson Jr. is expected to take over as the starting running back for the Washington Commanders. Robinson has been sharing carries with Ekeler throughout the season, but now looks to lead the backfield.
Jeremy McNichols will likely serve as the backup running back this week. Additionally, Washington may elevate either Chris Rodriguez Jr. or Michael Wiley from the practice squad if Ekeler, the former Los Angeles Chargers running back, is ruled inactive for Sunday’s game.
