Astros manager Joe Espada aimed to make the most of what could be Alex Bregman’s final regular-season game at Minute Maid Park.
As the AL West champions, the Astros are set to begin their playoff run next week, but Wednesday’s game marked their last home appearance of the regular season. With Bregman entering free agency this winter, it’s possible that this was his last regular-season game in the Astros’ colors at their home stadium.
Espada pulled Bregman from the game in the fourth inning to allow him to receive a standing ovation from both the crowd and his teammates.
Since debuting with the Astros in 2016, Bregman has only played for Houston and earned two World Series titles, in 2017 and 2022.
While there’s a chance Bregman could stay with the team next season, nothing is certain yet. Espada wanted to ensure Bregman had a special moment with the fans, just in case.
