The Green Bay Packers might find themselves back in search of a new kicker this week after rookie Brayden Narveson missed two crucial field goals in their narrow 31-29 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
Narveson has only converted 69.2% of his field goal attempts this season (9-for-13), and whatever confidence the Packers had in their young kicker seems to be fading quickly.
The problem is, Green Bay has already gone through a number of kickers since the offseason, and the current market doesn’t offer many promising options. They’ve already tried and cut Anders Carlson, Greg Joseph, Jack Podlesny, James Turner, and Alex Hale. With Narveson’s future uncertain, the Packers might be looking at bringing in their seventh kicker in the last few months.
If they decide to explore the kicker market again, here are five potential options, though the choices are limited.
1. Randy Bullock
Dependable? Yes. Flashy? Not exactly. But Randy Bullock is a veteran kicker who has consistently made 83.4% of his field goal attempts throughout his career. He has experience kicking in a variety of conditions, including the harsh Lambeau winds and humid Southern stadiums.
Bullock may not be a game-changer, but if the Packers need a reliable, steady kicker, he could bring some much-needed consistency to the position.
2. Brett Maher
Brett Maher’s performance has been inconsistent recently. In 2022, he was hitting over 90% of his field goals, but his accuracy dropped to just 74% in 2023. The Packers would be banking on the 2022 version of Maher returning, but given his recent struggles, he could be a risky choice for a team already dealing with kicking problems.
