Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper has been involved in trade rumors for months, with one notable deal reportedly almost sending him to the San Francisco 49ers for Brandon Aiyuk, per Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area in August.
As the Browns struggle with a 1-3 record, Cooper’s name is resurfacing in trade discussions. Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department recently suggested that the Denver Broncos should trade for Cooper.
They highlighted how the Broncos, showing potential under quarterback Bo Nix, could benefit from adding a true No. 1 receiver like Cooper. His expiring contract and low base salary make him an attractive midseason acquisition.
Cooper has also been mentioned as an option for the Kansas City Chiefs. ESPN’s Adam Schefter speculated on September 30 that the Chiefs, who lost wide receiver Rashee Rice to injury in Week 4, might consider trading for Cooper.
While Dallas Robinson of Pro Football Network pointed out that although Cleveland previously explored trading Cooper for Aiyuk, it doesn’t necessarily mean they will move him this season. However, if the Browns continue to struggle, Cooper could become a target for teams like the Chiefs.
Landing with either the Chiefs or Broncos would lead to different outcomes. The Chiefs, aiming for another Super Bowl run, could use Cooper to strengthen their receiver group after recent injuries. Meanwhile, the Broncos would look to Cooper to support rookie quarterback Bo Nix’s development.
Despite a slow start to the season, with just 148 yards on 16 receptions, Cooper is coming off back-to-back 1,150-yard seasons.
