The post-Week 5 rankings are out, and Alabama football fans are celebrating the Crimson Tide’s rise to the top spot after defeating Georgia. Alabama is now ranked No. 1 in the latest AP Poll, receiving 40 first-place votes, while Texas, at No. 2, earned 19 first-place votes. Texas has 1,525 points compared to Alabama’s 1,549. Georgia has dropped three spots to No. 5, while Tennessee moved up to No. 4.
Other SEC teams in the AP Top 25 include Missouri at No. 9, Ole Miss at No. 12, LSU at No. 13, and Oklahoma at No. 19. South Carolina and Kentucky also received votes but did not make the top 25.
This marks the 141st time Alabama has been ranked No. 1 in the AP Poll, the most of any program, with 104 of those rankings coming under coach Nick Saban.
In the Coaches Poll, Alabama climbed two spots to No. 2, trailing Texas by just nine points (1,339 for Texas to Alabama’s 1,330). Georgia fell to No. 5, and Tennessee rose to No. 4. The SEC also had Missouri at No. 9, Ole Miss at No. 11, LSU at No. 12, Oklahoma at No. 17, and Texas A&M at No. 21. Kentucky and South Carolina appeared in the “Others Receiving Votes” category.
Utah experienced the biggest drop in the Coaches Poll, falling eight spots to No. 18 after losing to Arizona.
