Broncos’ Tyler Badie Placed on IR After Back Injury, Prognosis Positive
The Denver Broncos have placed running back Tyler Badie on injured reserve, following a back injury he suffered during Sunday’s game against the New York Jets. Though the injury initially raised concerns about its severity, Badie has avoided a serious outcome, according to team reports. However, he is expected to miss a significant amount of time as he recovers.
Earlier this week, Broncos head coach Sean Payton mentioned that Badie was “possibly” a candidate for IR, hinting at the move that was made official on Saturday. This decision means Badie will be sidelined for at least four weeks, as per NFL rules.
In response to Badie’s injury and roster vacancy, the Broncos have elevated inside linebacker Levelle Bailey from their practice squad. Bailey will suit up for the Broncos in their upcoming home game against the Las Vegas Raiders, providing additional depth on defense.
Badie, 24, was originally drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Though he didn’t secure a permanent spot in Baltimore, the Broncos signed him off the Ravens’ practice squad later that year. He has since been a depth piece in Denver’s backfield, contributing when needed.
While his prognosis is optimistic, the Broncos will have to make do without Badie for the foreseeable future. His absence opens the door for other backs on the depth chart to step up, but fans will certainly be eager for his return once he’s fully recovered.
