The Chicago Bears are already missing starting strong safety Jaquan Brisker for Week 6’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, and now cornerback Tyrique Stevenson may also be unavailable. Stevenson, listed as “doubtful” on the team’s final injury report, sustained a calf injury during practice on October 10 and missed the Bears’ last practice in London, putting his status for Sunday’s game in question.
Brisker has been officially ruled out after not traveling to London due to a concussion. He suffered the injury during a big hit on Carolina Panthers’ tight end Tommy Tremble in Week 5. Though Brisker finished the game, he entered the concussion protocol afterward. This marks his third concussion in three seasons with the Bears.
Elijah Hicks is expected to start in Brisker’s place at strong safety, while the Bears face additional depth challenges at cornerback. Backup corner Terell Smith is still sidelined with a hip injury, leaving the team thin in the secondary.
If Stevenson is unable to play, head coach Matt Eberflus said that Jaylon Jones will step in at cornerback. Jones has seen limited action this season but has significant defensive experience from his previous two years. The Bears may also elevate practice squad players like Reddy Steward or Ameer Speed if needed.
Other injury concerns for Chicago include left guard Teven Jenkins (ankle) and defensive end Jacob Martin (toe), both listed as questionable. Martin, who has been designated to return from injured reserve, participated fully in practice, but the Bears would need to make a roster move for him to be eligible to play. Defensive tackle Zacch Pickens (groin) remains out, missing his fourth straight game.
The Bears (3-2) will face the Jaguars (1-4) at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, with kickoff set for 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, October 13.
