The Washington Commanders’ highly regarded rushing game could receive a boost as running back Brian Robinson Jr. aims to return from a knee injury in time for their matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
After missing last week’s 30-23 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Robinson has been practicing this week with hopes of rejoining a rushing attack that has been one of the league’s best, averaging 157.3 yards per game over the first six weeks.
Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury expressed optimism about Robinson’s return, alongside Austin Ekeler, noting the significant impact he brings both on and off the field.
“He’s a crucial part of what we do, emotionally and physically,” Kingsbury said. “His energy, passion, and overall play in all aspects—running, passing, and blocking—are vital for our unit.”
Robinson’s performance this season has been mixed, with two games surpassing 100 rushing yards but also three outings under 40 yards. Despite this, he leads the Commanders with 325 rushing yards and five touchdowns from 73 carries, highlighting why Kingsbury is eager to have him back.
Though there might be a temptation to rush his return, the Commanders sit at 4-2 and face a struggling Panthers team with a 1-5 record. Still, head coach Dan Quinn emphasized not underestimating Carolina, and if Robinson is cleared, he will likely play and provide a crucial boost to the offense.
