The Philadelphia Eagles have shown improvement recently but could still benefit from additional offensive talent.
The team traded for former first-round pick Jahan Dotson from the Washington Commanders this past offseason. However, Dotson’s impact has been minimal so far, with only six receptions for 35 yards and no touchdowns. The Eagles had hoped he’d step in as their No. 3 receiver, addressing a long-standing need, but it hasn’t quite panned out yet. There’s still plenty of time in the season for Dotson to improve, yet adding another veteran to support the offense might be a wise move.
While there’s been talk of a potential trade before the deadline, the Eagles don’t necessarily need to go that route. They could explore options in free agency, such as three-time Pro Bowler Michael Thomas. Once the top receiver in the league and well-compensated for it with a five-year, $96 million deal in New Orleans, injuries derailed Thomas’s career. Now available and reportedly healthy, he could offer value to Philadelphia.
Though Thomas may not return to his 2019 form, where he recorded 149 catches for 1,725 yards, he could provide Jalen Hurts with a reliable target for short passes across the middle. The Eagles could likely sign him at a low cost, making it a low-risk move worth considering.
