The New England Patriots might be open to making trades before the November 5th deadline. With a surplus of wide receivers, a few could potentially be available for the right offer.
After a 1-6 start to the season and with a high draft pick on the horizon, the Patriots should focus on trading players who don’t align with their long-term plans. As they aim to rebuild over the coming years, New England will need as many assets as possible to acquire young talent.
One AFC team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, has shown strong interest in three of the Patriots’ wide receivers.
According to a report from Diana Russini of The Athletic, the Steelers are reportedly considering K.J. Osborn, Tyquan Thornton, and Kendrick Bourne as options to strengthen their receiving corps.
“I think the Steelers are trying to make a move,” Russini commented. “Darius Slayton, Diontae Johnson, Christian Kirk, DeMarcus Robinson, K.J. Osborn, Tyquan Thornton, Kendrick Bourne.”
Among the three receivers, Bourne would likely make the biggest impact for Pittsburgh. Recently, he’s been in trade rumors, though he’s been limited to just three games this season due to injury, catching four passes for 29 yards.
Osborn, in his first season with New England, has yet to make the desired impact, recording seven catches for 57 yards and one touchdown. Thornton, who is 24, has also fallen short of expectations, with just two receptions for 27 yards. There have been reports that the Patriots are open to trading Thornton as well.
The Patriots could be an ideal trade partner for the Steelers. Although these receivers haven’t reached their full potential with New England, a new environment might benefit them. If Pittsburgh wants a cost-effective option, any of these three players could be a good fit.
Expect more trade rumors surrounding the Patriots before the deadline, as they’ll likely make at least one or two more moves before November 5th.
