JUST IN: 76ers receives ban and Fined $100k by NBA for misleading statements on Joel Embiid status just now

The NBA has fined the Philadelphia 76ers $100,000 for providing misleading public statements regarding Joel Embiid’s health status, which violated league rules, including the Player Participation Policy.

The fine followed Embiid’s absence from the season opener against the Milwaukee Bucks due to left knee soreness, a game broadcast nationally.

While the league confirmed that Embiid’s knee condition is legitimate and he did not violate the policy himself, it found that comments from coach Nick Nurse and team president Daryl Morey ahead of the season did not accurately represent Embiid’s status. The NBA did not specify which statements were in question.

Embiid, last season’s MVP, played only 39 games due to health issues and recently stated that he may no longer play back-to-back games to manage his physical condition better.
