Jamin Davis, Green Bay’s newest linebacker, previously with Washington Commanders.
The Packers have announced a series of roster changes ahead of their crucial Week 9 game against the Detroit Lions.
Green Bay signed Jamin Davis, former Commanders linebacker, to the practice squad, while releasing Chris Russell to create space.
Davis, a 2021 first-round pick, played in 50 games with 36 starts over 3+ seasons. With his experience, it’s likely he could soon join the Packers’ active roster.
Background on Jamin Davis
A standout at Kentucky, Davis was a high-potential prospect in 2021. His rookie season in Washington saw him record 76 tackles but faced challenges adapting to the NFL level. He ended his debut year with only 1 sack, raising questions about his immediate impact.
In 2024, under new coach Dan Quinn, Davis was moved from linebacker to defensive end to enhance his pass-rushing, but struggled with the transition, logging just 13 tackles in five games before being released. Throughout his time with Washington, Davis tallied 282 tackles, 7 sacks, 6 defended passes, and 1 interception in 50 games.
Despite his release, Quinn praised Davis’ work ethic and contribution to the team.
Green Bay is off to a strong 6-2 start, driven by their revitalized defense under new coordinator Jeff Hafley. Their pass defense ranks well, allowing 1,885 passing yards and limiting teams to 893 rushing yards. The Packers’ defense, with 21 sacks, is ranked 8th in the NFL and gives up 21.3 points per game, a solid performance on both sides of the ball.
With a key matchup against the Detroit Lions ahead, their defense will be crucial.
