ICYMI: Caitlin Clark not found on WNBA Top Scorers list as Angel Reese makes number 2 on list

The 2024 WNBA season saw Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark and her main competitor, Angel Reese, capturing a lot of media attention. Reese’s season was cut short by a late wrist injury and subsequent surgery, which ultimately secured Clark’s position as the WNBA Rookie of the Year, with Reese finishing as runner-up. Clark continued her impressive performance into the playoffs, where her Fever team was eliminated in the first round by the Connecticut Sun. Although Clark’s season highlighted her talent as the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer, she was ultimately outscored by five other players in the WNBA.

Clark ended the season averaging 19.2 points per game, sharing the team lead with Kelsey Mitchell and ranking seventh among all league scorers. Just above her was Jewell Loyd of the Seattle Storm with 19.7 points per game. The league’s top five scorers included Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier, who averaged 20.4 points, followed closely by Breanna Stewart of the champion New York Liberty with 20.4, and Kahleah Copper of the Phoenix Mercury at 21.1 points per game. Dallas Wings’ All-Star MVP Arike Ogunbowale placed second with 22.2 points per game, and the league’s scoring leader, Las Vegas Aces’ A’ja Wilson, averaged 26.9 points per game—over seven points higher than Clark.

With her remarkable debut, Clark has shown the potential to climb the scoring ranks next season. However, she’ll need more than her sharp three-point shooting and playmaking to compete with these established WNBA stars.
