Kalen DeBoer finds himself in a unique position as Alabama’s head football coach, following in the footsteps of the legendary Nick Saban. Taking on the challenge to uphold the Crimson Tide’s tradition of success, DeBoer has faced both the highs and lows of his first season. While he celebrated a big win against Georgia in his first matchup with Kirby Smart, he also had to cope with losses to Vanderbilt and Tennessee. Although DeBoer has a different approach from Saban, he still has Alabama in the hunt for a postseason berth, debuting at No. 11 in the College Football Playoff rankings. However, to stay in contention, Alabama must defeat LSU.
An ESPN sideline reporter who has observed DeBoer closely, Holly Rowe, recently shared her thoughts on the coach. Having covered six Washington Huskies games in 2023, Rowe got an up-close look at DeBoer’s leadership style as he led Washington to the CFP National Championship Game.
Rowe encouraged Alabama fans to be patient with DeBoer, noting the significant changes the team has undergone since he took over, including roster turnover and adjustments to the scheme and personnel. She emphasized the importance of allowing DeBoer time to navigate these changes, as he is working in a very different environment from Saban.
“I really hope the fanbase is patient,” Rowe said. “There were a lot of changes, and that’s a lot to manage. Kalen DeBoer is one of my favorite people in college football. I’ve gotten to know him well, and I truly believe in him.”
Rowe is confident that if Alabama fans give DeBoer the time he needs, they will see positive results. “If they give him the time and space he needs, they will be happy with the results,” she added.
