Buffalo Bills star quarterback Josh Allen shared his candid thoughts on his long-standing rivalry with the Kansas City Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs will head to Buffalo this Sunday for an AFC heavyweight showdown. Both Allen and Mahomes, who became their teams’ starting quarterbacks in 2018, have faced each other seven times.
While Mahomes holds a 1-3 regular-season record against the Bills, he has won all three playoff matchups between the teams. When Bills beat reporter Joe Buscaglia asked Allen about his success in regular-season games against the Chiefs, Allen kept the focus on those postseason defeats, saying,
“Well, I know we haven’t beaten them in the playoffs. And that’s the only thing that kind of matters.”

Josh Allen has surged into MVP contention in recent weeks. The two-time Pro Bowler has tallied 17 touchdown passes and only four interceptions this season, holding the league’s fifth-highest QBR. With an 8-2 record, the Bills are nearly assured the AFC East title and a home playoff game. Yet, Buffalo has plenty on the line as they push toward the postseason.
Currently the No. 2 seed in the AFC, the Bills are a game and a half away from securing home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. If they can beat Kansas City, they would need one additional Chiefs loss to clinch first place—a realistic scenario, as Kansas City has been facing tougher competition lately.
However, Buffalo’s path isn’t easy. They’re set to host last season’s Super Bowl contenders in their next two games, followed by challenging road matchups against the Los Angeles Rams and the in-form Detroit Lions.
After last season’s playoff run ended at home against Mahomes and the Chiefs, locking up home-field advantage remains key for the Bills. They are unbeaten at Orchard Park this season and enjoy one of the most devoted fanbases in the NFL. Keeping that home record intact against the two-time defending champs would be crucial not only for the AFC’s top seed but also for Allen and his team’s confidence that they can dethrone the Chiefs in January.
