BREAKING NEWS: Packers Reportedly Land free agents Blockbuster to replace 5-star

For a time, it appeared that Jaire Alexander might be able to return in time to bolster the Green Bay Packers for their playoff push. He participated in several full practices, and while he didn’t take the field, the signs were promising.

However, Alexander’s comeback ultimately fell short. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that the All-Pro cornerback required surgery. While LaFleur didn’t completely rule out a return this season, he admitted it’s “likely” Alexander will miss the remainder of the year.

The Packers have already had to adapt without Alexander in their secondary—he’s played just 10 snaps since Week 8. With his return now unlikely, the team may need to explore the free-agent market for experienced reinforcements.

If Evan Williams is healthy, Javon Bullard could shift to the slot, allowing Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine to handle duties on the outside. However, depth remains a concern without Alexander.

Free-agent options are limited, but the Packers could consider adding a seasoned veteran to strengthen their secondary.

Which Free-Agent Cornerbacks Could the Packers Target After Jaire Alexander’s Injury Update?

Patrick Peterson

Patrick Peterson hasn’t played since the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 17-10 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on January 6, 2024. At 34 years old, his NFL future is uncertain. However, Peterson demonstrated he could still contribute during his stints with the Steelers and Minnesota Vikings.

Last season, Peterson started 16 games for Pittsburgh, allowing a completion percentage of just 59.4 and a passer rating of 91.5. He also logged 11 pass breakups and two interceptions, per Pro Football Reference. While he may no longer be at a Pro Bowl level, Peterson could offer valuable depth and experience behind Nixon and Valentine.

J.C. Jackson

J.C. Jackson is only three seasons removed from a standout year with the New England Patriots, where he earned Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro honors. In 2021, he led the league with 23 passes defended and added eight interceptions. Between 2019 and 2021, Jackson recorded an impressive 47 pass breakups and 22 interceptions.

Arizona Cardinals v Green Bay Packers

However, his performance declined sharply after signing with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2022. Midway through last season, Jackson returned to the Patriots but posted disappointing Pro Football Focus grades of 28.7 and 34.8 over the last two years. While Jackson’s recent struggles make a return to All-Pro form unlikely, he could still bring upside to the Packers’ secondary if he regains even a fraction of his past success. That said, his recent play may deter the Packers from pursuing him.

Adding cornerback help this late in the season is a challenge, but if Green Bay opts to bring in a veteran, Peterson or Jackson could be worthwhile options.
