Not this time, Aaron: Giants and Aaron Rodgers Are Close On a Contract Agreement But The Worst Part of Aaron Rodgers to The Giants isn’t Even Aaron Rodgers

Not this time, Aaron.

The 2025 NFL season hasn’t officially begun, but that hasn’t stopped teams from making moves. This offseason is truly setting up to be one of the most chaotic in recent memory, and the New York Giants are right in the thick of it. Quarterback remains priority No. 1 for Big Blue, and after missing out on Matthew Stafford, they’ve been linked to every available—or even semi-available—option on the market.

Aaron Rodgers? Check. Sam Darnold? Sure. Russell Wilson? Why not? Even the NFL Draft remains firmly in play with rumors swirling about a potential trade-up to No. 1 overall. But the Rodgers speculation has been particularly loud, and if there’s one thing we’ve learned about Rodgers in recent years, it’s that he doesn’t just join teams—he transports them to wherever he goes.

And that means one thing: If the Giants sign Aaron Rodgers, Allen Lazard will likely follow.

Allen Lazard will likely follow Aaron Rodgers to the Giants

There are a few certainties in this world of ours: Death, taxes, and Aaron Rodgers demanding his supporting cast follow him wherever he goes. Expect nothing less of the pseudo-GM if Big Blue opts to sign him during free agency.

The Jets released star receiver Davante Adams, so there’s already speculation that he’ll join Rodgers in New York if he signs with the Giants. But what if he’s not the only former teammate who might link up with Rodgers for round three? Enter Lazard.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the news that the New York Jets will look to move Lazard this offseason… but are also open to bringing him back. That’s some classic Jets logic for ya, but we digress. The real storyline here is that he Jets are willing to move on from Lazard, and now with rumors swirling around Rodgers to the Giants, it’s practically a guarantee Lazard will follow. It’s all he’s known.

And that really stinks for Giants fans.

Lazard has never been an elite receiver. He’s never been a great receiver. He’s never even been a good receiver. He’s playable… at times. Lazard has one of the highest drop percentages in the NFL, and he’s just flat-out inconsistent. However, Rodgers loves him and insists he follows him everywhere he goes, which is why the Jets making Lazard available is dangerous for the Giants.

Maybe it’s the Jets’ way of countering the rumors that Rodgers wants to come to the other New York team to spite them. Regardless, if Rodgers tries to play assistant GM and says he’ll only sign if certain criteria are met, Joe Schoen needs to hold his ground and say, “You get what you get, and you don’t get upset.” Can’t wait for the Nathaniel Hackett joins Giants’ staff report, too.
