Sad News: 6-Word Report on Aaron Rodgers’ Free Agency Is Bad News for Steelers
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers won’t be a member of the Minnesota Vikings in 2025, and it may yet be awhile before his next team is announced.
Minnesota roundly rejected Rodgers’ free agency on Wednesday, March 19, per a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
“The [Vikings] have rejected multiple trade calls on J.J. McCarthy, telling other teams they’re moving forward with him as their quarterback, sources say,” Pelissero reported via an X post. “The team plans to add a veteran. But they’re not pursuing Aaron Rodgers at this time. McCarthy now enters the offseason as QB1.”
Minnesota was Rodgers’ first choice and served as the excuse for the quarterback holding off on accepting or declining standing offers from both the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants.

Also on Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the Vikings’ decision is not going to accelerate Rodgers’ choice, which is bad news for both Pittsburgh and New York as they attempt to construct firm rosters.
“Nothing related to Minnesota has altered Aaron Rodgers’ timeline,” Schefter posted to X. “One source monitoring Rodgers’ potential decision about the 2025 season said this morning that the free-agent QB still “is in no rush at all.”
Steelers captain and star defender Cam Heyward called Rodgers out on Tuesday over the four-time MVP dragging his feet on delivering Pittsburgh an answer.
“Either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don’t. That’s simple. That’s the pitch,” Heyward said on his “Not Just Football” podcast. “If you want me to recruit, that’s the recruiting pitch. Pittsburgh Steelers. If you want to be part of it, so be it. If you don’t, no skin off my back.”
