Sad News: Louisville key star announce plan to enter NCAA Transfer Portal

Louisville guard Koren Johnson plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. He averaged 3.0 points, 2.5 assists and 1.5 rebounds for the Cardinals throughout the 2024-25 season.

Johnson transferred to Louisville this past offseason, after two seasons with the Washington Huskies. He expected to expand upon his impressive 11.1 points per game that he averaged during the 2023-24 season, but he suffered an injury to his shoulder that forced him to miss almost the entire year while playing in the ACC.

“Card Nation! I have decided to redshirt this year and get shoulder surgery to make sure I’m in the best shape possible for next year and my future!” Johnson said via X, at the time of his injury earlier in the 2024-25 season. “I appreciate all the love and support.”

Evidently, Johnson felt that he needed to move on from Louisville to get his collegiate career back on track. Injury derailed his time with the Cardinals, so he’ll be hoping for some better luck wherever he ends up next season.

Moreover, Johnson played high school basketball at Wasatch Academy (Seattle, WA), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 126 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Time will tell what the future holds for Johnson. Whether he returns to the West Coast or opts for an unexpected squad remains to be seen, but his next move will be something to keep an eye on regardless. He certainly has the talent to be successful in the future.
