Sad News: Buffalo Bills shock fans by cutting ties with $15.75 million key star
If Buffalo Bills fans expect a contract extension for running back James Cook in the coming weeks, you will be disappointed.

With the franchise already doing a host of extensions that include Josh Allen, Khalil Shakir, Greg Rousseau, Terrel Bernard and Christian Benford, Cook, who will be playing on the final year of his rookie deal in 2025 is still without a contract.
And it appears that things won’t be changing anytime soon for Cook and his search for a new deal, as general manager Brandon Beane, who was at the annual league meeting, stated he doesn’t see any deals being done soon.
“Once we got Benford done, and I don’t see us doing any deals anytime soon,” Beane said. “We’re gonna focus on the draft, and getting our cap in order.”
That doesn’t sound too promising for James, and his desire to get a new contract this offseason doesn’t mean the door will be slammed shut next offseason.
“Just because we don’t have James signed today doesn’t mean next year we can’t get him done before he gets to free agency,” Beane added.
So, right now, the Bills are fully focused on the draft and getting their salary cap in order, which, per Over The Cap, the franchise has just $4.4 million in cap space.
So Cook doesn’t seem too high on the Bills’ priority list right now. With Beane also stating that the franchise and Cook weren’t on the same page, maybe it is smart to revisit this in 12 months’ time.
That’s the final decision from the team.
But Cook wants a new deal now, and it is becoming increasingly apparent that he might not be getting one this offseason.
