DONE DEAL JUST IN: Packers Trade another Wide Receiver in blockbuster trade just now

As the 2024 season begins, Green Bay Packers fans are optimistic about the offense and its potential to build on last year’s achievements.

However, in the opening two weeks, wide receiver Christian Watson has struggled, raising concerns. The former second-round pick has managed only three receptions (on five targets) for 13 yards and one touchdown.

Watson was particularly quiet in the Packers’ Week 2 victory over the Colts, failing to record a target or catch despite being on the field for 41 offensive snaps (59%). While it’s worth noting that Jordan Love was sidelined with an MCL sprain, his absence didn’t hinder Romeo Doubs (three catches for 62 yards) and Dontayvious Wicks (three catches for 26 yards and a touchdown) from making contributions for Malik Willis, who started in Love’s place.

If Watson’s struggles persist and he remains ineffective as a deep threat, the Packers may need to consider trading him. If they choose to go that route, the Pittsburgh Steelers could be an ideal landing spot for Watson.

The Steelers are in urgent need of a reliable WR2 to complement George Pickens, as they currently lack another effective receiving option. It’s clear that Pittsburgh’s receiving corps, aside from Pickens, isn’t strong.

On the other hand, the Packers boast a deep receiver lineup that includes Watson, Jayden Reed, Doubs, Wicks, Bo Melton, and Malik Heat.

Reed had an impressive Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles and demonstrated last season as a rookie that he could potentially be the team’s No. 1 receiver. Watson’s struggles with injuries last year (playing in just nine games) allowed Reed to step into that WR1 role.

So far, Watson has avoided injuries, but the concern remains for Green Bay fans. The Packers are likely not in a hurry to trade Watson, as they appreciate the wealth of receiving talent that can develop alongside Jordan Love.

However, if Watson fails to deliver and the Steelers were to offer a Day 2 pick along with another selection, the Packers might have to give serious thought to the trade.
