Former New England Patriots running back Ty Montgomery, who played during the 2022-23 seasons, is set to retire ahead of Week 3 of the NFL season. In a post on his website, Montgomery announced his decision to retire, emphasizing his desire to step away on his own terms.
“The ability to end things with my health intact has made it easier to embrace retirement rather than staying too long. I’ve been fortunate to play the game for many years, and that’s allowed me to be excited for what’s next. The Lord is giving me clarity on my purpose beyond football, and I’m eager to explore it,” he shared.
Originally drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Montgomery started as a wide receiver, the position he played in college at Stanford, before transitioning to running back in 2016. Over his nine-year career, Montgomery also played for the Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets, and New Orleans Saints before concluding with the Patriots.
At 31, he appeared in 92 games, starting 20, and accumulated 1,187 rushing yards with seven touchdowns on 263 carries. He also caught 147 passes for 1,159 yards and four touchdowns.
