Demetres Samuel Jr., a four-star safety from Palm Bay (Fla.) Heritage, switched his commitment from Syracuse to Florida in late July. He has remained committed since then, attending only one game at Florida—the season opener against Miami on August 31, which they lost. However, he has kept up with the team by watching their other three games, including their recent victory over Mississippi State.
“They’re 2-2 right now, and I think their last win was significant,” he said, reflecting on Florida’s first four games. “They’re improving each week and just need to maintain their energy and keep pushing forward.”
Despite Florida’s mixed results this season, their defense has struggled, particularly in the secondary, which has faced injuries and a lack of depth. Samuel sees this as a chance for him to contribute in the future, despite his desire to see the secondary improve.
