After three games, Bo Nix led the Denver Broncos to their first win of the 2024 season. Nix, who had struggled in the first two games, found his rhythm in a 26-7 victory over the typically strong Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense in Week 4. He completed 69.4% of his passes, throwing for 216 yards, with no touchdowns or interceptions.
Nix also avoided sacks and rushed for 47 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. After the game, he expressed how much the win meant to him: “You only get this moment once, and it’s tough to win in this league. Our guys earned this. We were close in the first two games, and to get a win today against a great team gives us confidence moving forward.”
So far this season, Nix has completed 62.8% of his passes for 600 yards, with no passing touchdowns but two rushing scores. He credited head coach Sean Payton for setting the pace with aggressive play calls early on.
Payton admitted he wanted to “send a message” in the game’s opening drive, which led to a 70-yard drive in six plays. Nix and wide receiver Courtland Sutton praised the approach, noting it set the tone for the game. Sutton caught seven passes for 68 yards, but both he and Nix are still seeking their first touchdown connection as the Broncos prepare to face the Jets in Week 4.
Payton explained his strategy to be aggressive early against a tough Buccaneers defense, which historically presents challenges to the running game. Denver’s running back Tyler Badie rushed for 70 yards on nine carries, most of which came in the second half to secure the win.
