Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love has signed a four-year, $220 million contract extension, a source confirmed on Friday. The deal includes a $75 million signing bonus and $155 million in guaranteed money.
The extension comes after Love led the Packers, the NFL’s youngest team, to a 10-9 record and a playoff appearance in his first season as a starter. Love took over for four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers, who was traded to the New York Jets in April 2023.
NFL Network first reported the news of Love’s extension, while ESPN detailed the specifics of the signing bonus and guarantees.
On the same day, Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa signed a four-year, $212.4 million extension, Detroit’s Jared Goff agreed to a four-year, $212 million deal with $170 million guaranteed, and Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence signed a five-year, $275 million extension earlier in the offseason.
Love now ranks among the NFL’s highest-paid quarterbacks, tying with Lawrence and Joe Burrow for the highest average salary at $55 million per year. However, due to the rising NFL salary cap, Love’s contract takes up a smaller percentage (21.5%) of the cap compared to Burrow’s extension (25%) in 2023.
Love, 25, had not been practicing during training camp while contract negotiations were ongoing but remained involved in team activities. His previous contract was set to expire at the end of the upcoming season. Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst affirmed Love’s status as the team’s franchise quarterback and emphasized the importance of building a strong team around him for future success.
Green Bay had previously extended Love in May 2023, offering a one-year deal with $13.5 million in guaranteed money and $9 million in incentives, allowing the team to evaluate him during his first year as a starter post-Rodgers.
In his breakout season, Love completed 64.2% of his passes for 4,159 yards, throwing 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. His performance improved significantly throughout the year, including a nine-game stretch where he threw 21 touchdown passes with just one interception. This run culminated in a 48-32 playoff win against the Dallas Cowboys, though Love’s season ended with a narrow loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Love’s 32 touchdown passes ranked second in the league, only behind Dak Prescott’s 36. Historically, only Kurt Warner (1999) and Patrick Mahomes (2018) have matched or exceeded Love’s 4,000-yard, 32-touchdown season in their first year making multiple starts.
Before last season, Love had made just one career start after being selected 26th overall by Green Bay in the 2020 NFL Draft and spending three seasons as Rodgers’ backup.
