Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung will be placed on the injured list due to persistent soreness in his surgically repaired hand, ending his 2024 season with only six games remaining, according to reports.
Jung’s season has been plagued by setbacks. He was struck on the hand by a pitch in the fourth game of the year, resulting in a fracture that was initially expected to sideline him for 4-6 weeks. However, after surgery, the recovery timeline was extended to 10-12 weeks. He began a rehab assignment in mid-June but had to stop after four games due to continued soreness. Jung eventually returned to the majors in late July but has not played since September 18 because of the same issue.
This week, Jung is scheduled to see a hand specialist in Arizona, with the hope of developing a plan to ensure he’s fully healthy for the 2025 season. Injuries have been a recurring issue throughout his career, limiting him to 78 games in 2021 and keeping him out for most of 2022 due to a shoulder injury sustained during a workout. In 2023, he missed a month with a fractured hand and was questionable for Opening Day this year after a leg injury in spring training.
