For the first time in program history, Alabama football released a conference-required availability report on Wednesday. The SEC began mandating daily reports starting on the Wednesday of game weeks for the 2024 season.
The Crimson Tide’s upcoming matchup against Georgia marked their first report of the season. Although Alabama previously played and defeated Western Kentucky, South Florida, and Wisconsin, availability reports weren’t required for those games since they weren’t SEC matchups. The SEC introduced the reports to address the demand for player information fueled by sports gambling. Teams must now disclose players who are out, doubtful, questionable, or probable due to injuries, illness, or other reasons.
Head coach Kalen DeBoer commented on the reports in August, saying, “I understand why they might be necessary and helpful. I frequently remind our players about the importance of staying clear of gambling and how leaking information from within the program affects the outside world. So, we’ll follow the rules and comply with the requirements.”
On Alabama’s Wednesday report, only three players were listed: linebackers Qua Russaw and Jeremiah Alexander, both probable, along with running back Richard Young, who was also marked as probable.
Key players absent from the list included Cole Adams and Malachi Moore. Moore sustained a head injury in the game against Wisconsin, while Adams injured his arm in the South Florida game.
Alabama is set to face Georgia at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Tuscaloosa, with the game airing on ABC.
