After a disappointing 2023 NFL season, the Washington Commanders aimed to turn things around by selecting reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels as the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Though there were concerns about Daniels’ size and durability, the Commanders believed he was the right choice to be their new franchise quarterback, with Caleb Williams already taken by the Chicago Bears at No. 1 overall.
Despite losing their season opener to Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium, the Commanders quickly rebounded with a win over their division rivals, the New York Giants.
Building on that momentum, they secured victories against the Cincinnati Bengals and Arizona Cardinals, starting the season strong with a 3-1 record.
While things appear to be trending in the right direction, Washington made additional moves this week, signing guard Marquis Hayes and safety Sheldrick Redwine to the practice squad, as announced on the team’s X account.

The victory over the Cardinals at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, was arguably the Commanders’ most impressive performance so far. Despite throwing an interception, Jayden Daniels delivered a standout game, scoring both a passing and rushing touchdown as the team posted a season-high 42 points.
Although it’s still early in the season, the Commanders are beginning to show real potential and could emerge as a strong contender in the NFC sooner rather than later.
