Matt Barrows of The Athletic clarified that what was originally reported as a signing to the active roster was, in fact, a move to the practice squad rather than the 53-man roster.

The Carolina Panthers drafted Marshall, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound player from LSU, in the second round (59th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft.
In the previous season, Marshall made 19 receptions for 139 yards from 33 targets over nine games (including four starts) with the Panthers, participating in 55 percent of the offensive snaps, as noted by Pro Football Reference. He missed seven of the last eight games due to inactivity.
Now 24 years old, Marshall has accumulated 64 receptions for 767 yards and one touchdown in 36 games (16 starts) across his three NFL seasons. His best performance was in 2022, when he registered 28 catches for 490 yards and a touchdown on 47 targets.
