The New York Rangers are in their prime to make a Stanley Cup run, and a potential trade could see them acquiring a star forward in exchange for their captain. According to PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool, a fan-proposed trade involves the Rangers re-acquiring Frank Vatrano from the Anaheim Ducks.
The trade would include the Rangers receiving Frank Vatrano, while the Ducks would get Jacob Trouba, a 2025 first-round pick, and a 2026 sixth-round pick. This blockbuster deal would strengthen the Rangers’ forward group with Vatrano, a 30-year-old winger who played for New York in 2021-22. Meanwhile, Anaheim would gain two draft picks and Trouba, who could be flipped for more assets later.
Vatrano, who has played 564 NHL games with 160 goals and 111 assists, could provide middle-six depth for the Rangers. On the other hand, Trouba, the Rangers’ captain, has been the subject of trade rumors, despite no deals materializing this offseason due to his no-trade clause. He reportedly blocked a trade to the Detroit Red Wings but remains a key player for the Rangers as they enter training camp.
General Manager Chris Drury confirmed there are no hard feelings between the team and Trouba, highlighting his leadership and offseason work.
Vatrano is entering the final year of his contract, and while he has expressed a desire to stay with the Ducks, his name is expected to surface in trade talks if Anaheim falls out of playoff contention. Despite this, Vatrano is hopeful for the Ducks’ future and wants to remain part of the team’s long-term plans.
