At Bruins Media Day on Monday, GM Don Sweeney hinted that Fabian Lysell might get another shot in training camp before the final NHL roster is determined.
On Thursday, Lysell, a 21-year-old top prospect, was recalled from Providence ahead of the Bruins’ exhibition game against the Kings in Quebec City.
After sending Lysell and others to the AHL on Sunday, Sweeney explained that they wanted to run camp with a smaller group of players through Tuesday but might recall some for evaluation.
“We’ll assess after tomorrow’s game what Thursday’s lineup looks like, and some players may return for Thursday or Saturday,” Sweeney noted. “Camp isn’t over, and the evaluation process never really ends.”
Sweeney also challenged Lysell to make the necessary improvements to become a full-time NHL player.
“Everyone sees the skillset Fabian has, and we’re excited about it,” Sweeney said. “Now he needs to work on the team aspects that Jim Montgomery sees as key to the Bruins’ success. All young players go through this process. He’ll get another chance, and we hope he makes the most of it.”
After a shaky preseason debut, Lysell improved in his second game, scoring a power-play goal.
