Earlier today, the Chicago Bears signed defensive tackle Byron Cowart to their active roster from the practice squad. Having already been elevated three times this season, league rules required them to sign him to the 53-man roster. This move fills the spot left open when tight end Stephen Carlson was placed on injured reserve last week.
The Bears are once again short-handed at defensive tackle, as Zacch Pickens has been ruled out for tomorrow’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
Looking ahead to next week, the Bears have the option to designate offensive linemen Larry Borom and Ryan Bates, defensive end Jacob Martin, and long snapper Patrick Scales for return from injured reserve.
Each team can designate up to eight players to return from injured reserve per season, with an additional two designations allowed for teams that reach the postseason.
