**TORONTO** — Max Pacioretty has found a new team.
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Monday that they have signed the veteran forward to a one-year contract after he successfully earned a spot on the roster during training camp on a professional tryout.
The 35-year-old former captain of the Montreal Canadiens will earn a base salary of $873,770 for the 2024-25 season. Last year, he recorded four goals and 23 points in 47 games with the Washington Capitals.
Pacioretty, who was drafted 22nd overall by Montreal in the 2007 NHL Draft, has accumulated 330 goals and 668 points across 902 career games. He has also contributed 50 points (25 goals and 25 assists) in 78 playoff appearances.
In addition, the Maple Leafs signed forward Steven Lorentz to a one-year contract worth $775,000 after he performed well during his professional tryout. The 28-year-old was part of the Florida Panthers’ Stanley Cup-winning team in June.
The Leafs also extended defenceman Cade Webber with a two-year contract set to begin in the 2025-26 season. The 23-year-old will have an annual salary of $825,000 in the NHL, starting as a two-way contract next season and transitioning to a one-way deal in 2026-27.
In other news, the Leafs placed forwards Connor Dewar (upper body) and Fraser Minten (lower body) on injured reserve. Forward Calle Jarnkrok (lower body) and defencemen Jani Hakanpaa (lower body) and Dakota Mermis (upper body) were placed on long-term injured reserve. Additionally, goaltender Matt Murray and defenceman Marshall Rifai were loaned to the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.
The team also loaned junior forward Easton Cowan to the OHL’s London Knights, while former defenceman Jake Muzzin has joined Toronto’s player development staff after spending a season as a pro scout.
